Portolano Cavallo is growing its intellectual and industrial property practice group and strengthening its focus on Life Sciences by welcoming Maria Balestriero as of counsel. Maria will work on patents with a focus on the chemical-pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.

Maria has more than 20 years’ experience in representing clients in national and international dispute resolution in the chemical-pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, as well as other sectors. She also has successfully worked on numerous cases before the Court of Justice of the European Union. In addition, her experience includes patent transactional matters, such as licensing contracts and technology transfers.

The arrival of Maria Balestriero, which adds to the recent promotion to partner of Elisa Stefanini, fuels the growth of our Life Sciences group, created in 2016, and today representing some of the most important pharmaceutical and medical devices multinationals, both domestic and international, and startups and investors. Maria will also consolidate our 360° IP offering in areas that matter most to our clients” says Lydia Mendola, partner at Portolano Cavallo.

Maria has co-authored numerous publications, including the chapters “Examination of Claims, Revocation, Adjustments, Supplements, and Remarks”; “Execution, Transcription, Expropriation, and Military Secrecy”; “Advertising”; and “Compulsory and Voluntary Licenses” in the volume “Italian Industrial Law” (Scuffi-Franzosi, Cedam, 2014).
