With to Legora Portolano Cavallo will further enhance the quality of its services thanks to advanced generative functions for summaries, drafting, comparison and contract review, as well as analysis, translation and “deep searching”.
Following an in-depth evaluation process begun in the first quarter of 2025, Portolano Cavallo has decided to adopt Legora on a large scale, becoming the first Italian law firm in which all lawyers and staff — including interns—will have access to the AI platform.
At the same time, Portolano Cavallo has launched a series of initiatives to ensure a careful and responsible implementation of the technology: from developing internal guidelines and providing training on AI systems (from foundations of LLMs to prompting), to identifying innovative use cases and introducing quality control mechanisms and risk monitoring systems. This approach reflects full awareness that large-scale adoption of generative artificial intelligence requires a structured and careful strategy.
The partnership with Legora is part of the firm’s broader innovation and digitalization journey, which began in 2013 with the firm’s first pilots on due diligence AI platforms, culminated in 2017 with the adoption – as first Italian law firm – of a now widely-known AI system supporting legal due diligence activities.
“Thanks to the partnership with Legora, we will achieve full integration of generative AI into our daily work” said Francesco Portolano, Partner at Portolano Cavallo. “This will allow us to develop new processes, use cases, and client services, supported by quality control tools and risk management systems related to the use of AI. ”
“AI is profoundly transforming the legal industry, allowing lawyers to focus on the most impactful strategic and advisory aspects,” said Attilio Abeille, Head of Italy & Mediterranean. Collaborating with Portolano Cavallo, a firm that has been able to stand out for its ability to anticipate change and adopt cutting-edge technologies, makes us proud and confirms that the future of the profession passes through the synergy between human expertise and AI.”
