Marco joined Portolano Cavallo in February 2017 and he focuses on IP and IT in the area of Life Sciences.
In his sixteen-year career, he has advised pharmaceutical, medical devices and other Life Sciences players in contentious and non-contentious matters.
His expertise includes drafting and negotiation of agreements relating to the development, use, licence and transfer of intellectual property rights; pharmaceuticals manufacturing, supply, distribution, co-production and co-marketing agreements, as well as clinical trials agreements.
Marco also advises and assists clients mainly in patent and know-how litigation proceedings, as well as in disputes concerning trademarks, design, copyrights, unfair competition; misleading advertisement and unfair commercial practices.
Before joining Portolano Cavallo, since 2012 Marco has been an associate with BonelliErede, where he focused on IP and IT matters, including in the Life Sciences field. Previously, he worked at Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners and at the Law Firm of Mr. Alfio Rapisardi.
Marco was awarded his Law Degree by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan in 2003, subsequently earning with distinction a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property from King’s College London in 2008.
He is a teaching assistant of Industrial Law at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.
He frequently speaks at conferences and seminars, both in Italy and abroad, on Intellectual Property and also teaches courses on the subject. He regularly publishes articles on IP and Life Sciences on specialized magazines.
Together with other colleagues, Marco edited the Italian chapters of the latest versions of the Life Sciences Law Review (TLR), the International Comparative Legal Guide to: Outsourcing (ICLG) and the Practical Law Outsourcing Global Guide (Thomson Reuters Practical Law).
In 2017 he published on the Rivista di Diritto Industriale, the main Italian review on intellectual property law, a monographic essay on the Trade Secrets Directive (EU 2016/943).
Marco is currently serving in the INTA Parallel Imports Committee – Sub-committee on Commingling Goods, and is a member of the Italian Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and of the Licensing Executives Society (LES Italy).
Marco has been ranked by Legal500 as “Next Generation Partner”, included by Who’s Who Legal among the Life Sciences experts both in the WWL Healthcare 2020 guide (“Global Leader”) and in the WWL: Italy 2020 guide (“National Leader”), and he is the only Italian lawyer mentioned in the Life Sciences chapter of the Expert Guides – Best of the Best 2019 by Legal Media Group.
